Visit Pyo Khinn school by the chairman of the board at the end of 2017
Only one year after the first visit and our decision to support it through OPC Germany the school makes a much better impression. It is well managed by a very committed headmaster and has developed very promising in terms of organization and pedagogy. The headmaster finds support from no less dedicated and motivated teachers.
Coincidentally, during her visit there was a local team making video recordings of teachers’ lessons to prepare for a three-day training course.
In the personal interviews it was reported that the students receive hardly any linguistic support from their parents because they do not speak Thai themselves. Although most of them do not want to go back to Myanmar, they only speak Burmese in the family and among friends and acquaintances, also for fear that they and their children will lose their Burmese roots.
As a result, language training in Thai is the key success factor for both the children and parents for the official recognition of the graduation and the time after graduating from the Pyo Khinn School. Unfortunately, good native speaker Thai language teachers are expensive and not easy to find. A mother tongue Thai teacher costs at least about € 2,400.00 per year.
Until “our school” can be released into independence and care by Thai authorities, there is still much to do. The ultimate goal of all efforts is the official Thai registration of the families because this would grant their children access to the free Thai education system from the very beginning. But this will still take its time and, hence, our donations will still urgently be needed.
